Wolverton Creek Project Final Report
6/28/06

We accomplished our major goals for the Wolverton Creek Project. Most importantly, we were able to establish Wolverton Creek as a reference creek for our continuing macroinvertebrate studies. Friends of the Van Duzen is now in their 6th year of a 50 year water quality monitoring study, and will be able to compare macroinvertebrate data throughout the watershed with reference to Wolverton Creek.

In addition, Wolverton Creek was established as a water quality monitoring site for the next 45 years of our study. Under the guidance of high school mentors from the Fortuna Creeks Project, elementary school students measured turbidity, temperature, and dissolved oxygen. Monitoring for turbidity was continued at the site throughout the 2005-2006 hydrologic year by Friends of the Van Duzen. Data for this site and trends in the watershed are being analyzed at present.

So, in conclusion, Friends of the Van Duzen was able to establish a water quality monitoring site at Wolverton Creek, conduct a macroinvertebrate study which included finding lamphrey eels, establish Wolverton Creek as a macroinvertebrate reference creek, provide place based in the field scientific field studies with elementary school students, provide watershed mentoring experiences between 8th grades and high school students in the local area, and raise levels of awareness regarding water quality monitoring in the Van Duzen Basin.
